A worker and two Detroit police officers were transported to a local hospital Monday after an ammonia explosion at a beverage distribution plant on the city’s north end.

Detroit firefighters and hazmat crews responded shortly after 9 a.m. to Intrastate Distributors Inc., 20021 Exeter St., just east of the former Michigan State Fairgrounds property, Detroit Fire Department Deputy Commissioner Dave Fornell said. The building was evacuated and surrounding streets were cordoned off for two blocks.
